5th Lent -C
Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to the house of Lazarus. Mary used a costly ointment to wash Jesus' feet. One of the disciples, Judas Iscariot, asked this question and Jesus replied, "Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of my burial. The poor you will always have with you, but you do not always have me." This is a clear forewarning of the events that were soon to come.
The artist chose to depict Judas' question here to lead our thoughts to Jesus' impending death on the cross.
